Hello again followers,
Today I wanted to discuss what the technique and treatment modality “Visceral Manipulation” means for you and your health.
After a year of advanced study and courses taken in the subject matter I can (from a professional view point) tell you that this technique is a manual therapy that utilizes soft, specific intent upon the body to encourage and facilitate organ(s) movement.
That’s right! I said “organ”; Vis-cer-a (noun) is found defined via google as
“the internal organs in the main cavities of the body, especially those in the abdomen, e.g. the intestines.”
A lot to take in initially, yet here are some highlights of what “viscera” is in our bodies;
• Are present in the cranial vault (your head),
• thoracic cavity and abdominal-pelvic cavity
Forms the base of the;
• skin,
• muscle and nerves,
• tendons and ligaments,
• joint capsules
• framework of internal organs and broad sheath layers.
Wow!!!! Viscera is a vast structure and component of structure throughout the body; but why should you care?
Consider Viscera Manipulation vs Symptoms of GI tract common dysfunction; ever had…
• Heart burn (aka acid reflux)?
• Bloating?
• General indigestion?
• Nausea/Stomach Pain?
• Gas?
• Diarrhea/Constipation?
OR consider Viscera Manipulation vs Symptoms of Pain/dysfunction with the outside anatomy
• Pelvis/Lower Back
• Mid Thoracic
• Shoulder issues (e.g. frozen shoulder)
Over the last year this technique modality has helped and aided many patients in my general registered massage therapy practise. To the best of my knowledge this It is NOT specifically found within massage therapy as a technique or is it a specialization (it is not a trademarked technique, or can one specialize in this treatment course).
Upon taking courses on the subject matter (shout out to Bodhi Tree teaching centre in Coverdale BC, https://www.bodhitreeteaching.ca/
I was also in class with parallel health professionals of the registered physiotherapy and acupuncture during each taken course.
That’s my take on why Massage, Visceral manipulation and you…
Thank you for your time.
